Calendar of the Francke Foundations

The symposium, designed as the final conference of 30 years of hymnological research at the Francke Foundations, pays tribute to these three decades of intensive work on hymnbooks and sacred song.

The main focus is on the two-part Freylinghausen Hymnal (Halle 1704/14), rediscovered in the form of a six-volume critical new edition (2004-2020), which represents the song-cultural legacy of Halle Pietism and once caused a sensation far beyond Germany's borders as the »Hallisches Gesangbuch« (Halle Hymnal) and many of whose extremely innovative songs have remained alive in many translations to this day. In addition to exchanging views on many years of experience, especially editorial experience, the symposium also aims to highlight prospects for hymnal research.

Corresponding impulses can also be expected from the presentation of new studies on Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen's Geistreiches Gesangbuch in the anthology entitled »Mein Herz soll den Herren loben«. Studien zum Freylinghausenschen Gesangbuch, which includes the beginning of the text of a psalm song by the editor himself that is exemplary for Pietist song piety.
