World change through human change
Exhibition

The picture illustrates the buildings that surround the Lindenhof Courtyard.

4 thalers and 16 groschen are considered the founding capital of the Francke Foundations. How this unexpected donation to a simple priest in Glaucha grew into an incomparable school town can be seen on the entrance floor of the Historical Orphanage. A multimedia installation and numerous unusual objects will take you on a fascinating journey through the history of the founding and impact of Francke's work. What began with a school for the poor and an orphanage developed within a few decades into a true reform project based on education: over 2,000 pupils learned in a wide variety of schools, specially erected farm buildings, a hospital and a pharmacy guaranteed the supply of the more than 3,000 people on the site, the unique cultural-historical collections in the library and Wunderkammer were set up and Francke's ideas spread within and outside Europe. August Hermann Francke wanted nothing less than a »world change through human change«. Discover what he set in motion.
