The Francke Foundations and England in the 18th century

In the early 18th century, there were close links between Halle's Pietism and England, especially London. Based on fundamental research by historians, the lecture will present an overview of this complex and multifaceted history and thus attempt to shed light on a chapter of German-British relations that is hardly known outside of specialised scholarship. From an ‘English House’ in Halle in the Prussian province, the route leads to the Savoy District and St James's Palace as well as on to India and America. Contemporary networking across the Channel is illustrated by people, media and missions.
Lecture: Prof Dr Holger Zaunstöck, Head of the Administrative Department Research
Moderation: Rupert Graf Strachwitz, Deputy Chairman of the Anglo-German Society
The event will take place digitally. We will provide the dial-in link here as soon as possible.
