Francke Celebration

Opening of the annual programme »Ganz im Affekt«

Portret of Renate Künast.

The Francke Celebration opens the annual programme of the Foundations and at the same time forms a meeting place for friends and supporters from near and far. We very much hope that we will be able to welcome you back to Halle after a forced break of two years and have chosen a theme for the year that affects everyone.

We experience it every day: emotions determine our everyday life. They show who we are. They are used as an instrument of communication and manipulation, determine our decisions, influence our behaviour and our life together. The annual programme »Ganz im Affekt« attempts to take a multi-faceted look at this topic, which is as individual as it is socially relevant - with discussions and an artistic approach, with long nights and scientific events, in the entire field of education as well as with the exhibition »The Power of Emotions«.

But first, we cordially invite you to the opening event with Renate Künast, whose commitment sends a clear signal against hate and for more courage in public discourse.

Festive Event

What role do emotions play today in society, politics and the media? How much emotion is good for forming opinions, in our everyday worlds and not least in education and upbringing? To open our annual programme under the motto »Ganz im Affekt«, we are looking forward to the debate contribution by the Federal politician Renate Künast, who, with her commitment to a constructive culture of debate, sends a clear signal for more courage in public discourse. Her book »Hate is not an opinion« was published in 2018.
