November marks the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Under the title "1989/90: Achieving freedom, shaping freedom", Dr h.c. mult. Joachim Gauck, former Federal President of Germany, opens the lecture series "Historical Signs of Freedom. Interpretations of the Peaceful Revolution in the Present".

The series is a lecture series organised by the Faculty of Theology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and supported by the LEUCOREA Foundation and the municipal and management consultancy beratungsraum GmbH. From an interdisciplinary perspective, it explores the topical potential of the upsetting events of 1989. From philosophical to historical to literary perspectives, the lecture series will bring together experts from academia, politics and culture at the Francke Foundations throughout the summer semester of 2024. The opening lecture will take place in the Freylinghausen Hall.

The entire programme of the lecture series can be found on the university website. The event will be livestreamed on YouTube.
