The conference »Pietism in Baltic History – Research Issues and Perspectives« on June 2, 2023 resulted from a cooperation between the National Library of Latvia, the Faculty of Theology of the University of Latvia, the Francke Foundations and the Interdisciplinary Center for Pietism Research at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. The aim of the cooperation between the Francke Foundations and the National Library in Riga is to strengthen the Baltic region as a subject area of Pietism research. The publication »Frīdrihs Bernhards Blaufūss. Dzīvesgājums. Friedrich Bernhard Blaufuß. Lebenslauf« had previously emerged from the collaboration.

This is also the context of the recently published book, which deals with Pietism in Baltic history from various thematic perspectives. Pietism is a religious movement that emerged in the Protestant Church in the 17th century and which also played an important role in the development of Latvian culture. In addition to Halle Pietism, the ideas of the Herrnhut Pietism also resonated with the Baltic population. This and other fields of research from the 17th to 20th centuries are covered by the researchers in the publication. With contributions in German or English as well as Latvian summaries, the conference proceedings provide an international audience with access to the latest research results.
