Bird migration – one of the most fascinating phenomena in terms of navigation – provides the inspiration for light artist Bernd Gengelbach’s elaborate video mapping installation for this year’s Museum Night. Migratory birds fly in various flock formations; they use solar navigation, the starry sky, magnetic fields, landmarks and weather information to master their routes, spanning thousands of kilometres, with astonishing precision. Let yourself be amazed by the interplay of movement, light and sound in the Freylinghausen Hall.
Associations with this year’s theme, ‘finding one’s way’, are also creatively explored in guided tours of the Wunderkammer and the Kulissenbibliothek, in the music programme, and in the activities for children and families. Museum Night offers a special opportunity to experience the foundations’ museum landscape in its entirety. Food and drink will of course be provided; we will open the garden restaurant for you in the atmospherically illuminated Lindenhof.
