Giuseppina Bridelli and the Concert de l’Hostel Dieu
Women in Baroque opera acted more freely and independently than their real-life counterparts. This was due, not least, to the castrati. Since the castrati took on the role of the male hero and sang in a high voice, their love duets with the great opera divas of their time suggested a utopia – that of equality between men and women and a mutual attraction that was not based on submission.
Mezzo-soprano Giuseppina Bridelli, the winner of a number of awards including the AsLiCo prize, recounts in music these tales of women. Despite her still young career, she has already worked with many famous musicians, including Zubin Mehta, Rolando Villazón and early music experts such as Diego Fasolis, Ottavio Dantone and Christina Pluhar. In Halle she will be accompanied by Concert de l’Hostel Dieu, whose self-acclaimed strong point is their ability to transpose the richness and variety of Baroque music to our time.
