In the night of January 15th there was an attack on the office of the SPD member of parliament Dr. Karamba Diaby. We are again alarmed by the violence, which is intended to deliberately shake the foundations of our democracy. Open discussion and the admission of opposing opinions that do not violate human dignity is the basis for the democratic freedom we enjoy in the Federal Republic after the Second World War and the reunification of Germany. Dr. Karamba Diaby, as a freely elected member of the Bundestag, is a guarantor for this. The violent attack on his office in Halle is an attack on everything we have worked together with great commitment over the past 70 years.
We condemn the increasing violence against people who are involved in politics at local, state or federal level. We pay tribute to the parliamentary work of Karamba Diaby and stand by his side. We will continue to work to ensure that fundamental democratic values are firmly anchored in the Federal Republic of Germany. Human dignity is inviolable.
