The government is bolstering the cultural heritage of the Francke Foundations

Over €200,000 in government funding for the renovation of historic buildings

The Francke Foundations are to receive €201,800 from the federal funding programme »Investments in Culturally Significant Institutions of National Importance« (INK). The funds are earmarked for the renovation of the façades of house 23-24. This means that the Francke Foundations are among the 22 projects newly included in the funding programme in 2026. In total, the federal government is providing around eleven million euros for this purpose.

Dr Franziska Kersten, SPD Member of the Bundestag and member of the Committee on Culture and Media, praised the funding as an important recognition of the institution’s national significance. She noted that the Francke Foundations are unique in Europe and represent an interdisciplinary educational ecosystem as well as numerous educational and social projects.

The funding programme supports investments in cultural institutions across Germany, including renovations, modernisations and measures to improve accessibility, sustainability and cultural outreach. The federal government generally covers up to 50 per cent of the project costs.
