KNK Conference 2026: Sign up for free now
»Progressive Traditions? Ideas for Polarized Times« — under this theme, the 2026 KNK Conference will explore how cultural institutions can remain effective in an increasingly divided society.
How do social tensions change our perspective on culture? How do mistrust and conflicts of interpretation arise in both traditional and social media? And what does this growing uncertainty mean for social cohesion, a sense of belonging, and the work of cultural institutions?
The public program on October 5 and 6, 2026, at the Francke Foundations will explore these and other questions — featuring thought-provoking insights, real-world examples, and lively discussions.
Guests include Prof. Dr. Raj Kollmorgen, professor of sociology and social policy at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences; Sonja Ludwig, director at 365 Sherpas BPI; and Prof. Dr. Maja Göpel, political economist, transformation researcher, and author. Representatives from museums, foundations, and cultural institutions will also share their experiences: How are history, heritage, and tradition being politically appropriated today — and what options for action do cultural institutions have?
Together, we want to take a closer look, ask questions, and develop new perspectives: on a society in transition, on the role of culture, and on progressive ways of engaging with tradition.
For KNK members, the program continues with an internal workshop and a general meeting on October 7.
Participation in the public program is free of charge.
