Date Palm Festival
On 29 April, our annual date palm festival in the Pflanzgarten school garden once again proved to be a special highlight of the gardening year. After the date palm had been freed from its winter protection, the nursery, pre-school and after-school care children of the Francke Foundations, together with their families and numerous guests, welcomed the palm with cheerful spring songs. Following a short address by Director Dr Marianne Schröter, the children gave the palm tree its first symbolic »spring bath« – in true style with watering cans and plenty of enthusiasm.
Around the greenhouse, numerous interactive stalls then awaited visitors of all ages. Here, they could do crafts, play and make culinary discoveries. Fresh from the wood-fired oven came the aroma of the legendary »Zwapfel-Cake«, a speciality made with apples and red onions, which owes its name to the Maria Montessori Day Care Centre.
A heartfelt thank you goes to all the nursery schools, the after-school club, the juniors of the Friends’ Association, and all the supporters who were on hand before, during and after the festival!
