August Hermann Francke lived with his family directly opposite to the orphanage, in the former inn »Golden Rose«. Today this 16th century building houses our visitor reception and museum shop.
On the living floor of the Francke family you will find the expressive portrait of the founder by the important Prussian court painter Antoine Pesne - commissioned by King Friedrich Wilhelm I himself. Get to know Francke's diverse talents and gifts here: In nine films, public figures such as Hans-Dietrich Genscher, Ulrich Wickert and Ralph Caspers tell children what fascinates them about Francke's work. They learn astonishing things not only about the theologian and educator, but also about the global player and visionary, the economic expert and builder. A true-to-scale model of the school town shows how the foundation buildings were used in the 18th century. Historical views of the foundations and the city of Halle from a donation by the passionate Hallensia collector Dr. Hans Stula, invites you to take a look at the history of the city.
