Date Palm Festival

A special highlight of the garden year is the date palm festival, which we celebrate in the plant garden on 30 April 2024. After freeing the date palm from its winter protection, the preschool children welcome all guests with spring songs at the palm tree. After a short speech by the director of the Francke Foundations, the palm tree is symbolically watered in the garden. Afterwards, there are various stands in and around the greenhouse where many kindergarten and school children from the Francke Foundations and their families can make, experience or play something to do with spring. All three daycare centres of the Francke Foundations, the August Hermann Francke after-school care centre, juniors (volunteer pupils of the Latina August Hermann Francke) and the beekeeper Max Baumann will be taking part in the festival with their own stands alongside the plant garden.
This year we are also celebrating the 100th anniversary of the chestnut tree at the entrance to the Pflanzgarten.
