The sixteenth century was not only the era of the Reformation but also that of the re-discovery of peace as a subject. In his renowned 1517 essay Querela pacis, Erasmus allows Pax (peace) to speak for itself. The Querela pacis is the rhetorically brilliant opening statement of a philosophical and theological discourse of the modern age, which is still far from being concluded. This year's university dialogue seeks to take up this discourse, update it, and develop it further into various directions. On the evening before the conference, an opportunity is presented to listen to Erasmus' essay being read.
