The Branch Library of Educational Sciences and Theology of the University and State Library (ULB) with its extensive collections and wide range of subjects in the fields of theology and education is a central service facility for the Faculties of Theology and Philosophy III, Educational Sciences of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, which are located in the buildings of the educational institution founded by the theologian and paedagogue August Hermann Francke. In these traditional-steeped surroundings there is a modern library with a media workshop and a PC centre for the students.

Library Collections

The collections of the library now comprise approximately 401.400 volumes from the fields of educational sciences, theology, media and communication studies as well as Jewish studies.

The educational literature within the branch library numbers 273.500 volumes in the fields of paedagogy, paedagogic philosophy, sociology, technical and economic studies, as well as primary school paedagogy. The theological collections with approximately 110.000 volumes are the second-largest part of the collections. They cover all relevant fields of theology and also take in sections on Christian archaeology and Christian art, denominational studies of the Orthodox Churches, biblical studies with the "Corpus Hellenisticum" (House 25) and esotericism (House 30). A further 8.200 volumes relate to communication studies, media studies and journalism. The collection of Jewish studies includes 9.700 volumes.

Opening hours

The library is open from Monday to Saturday between 8.00 and 23.00, on Sunday between 14.00 and 23.00.
