In the summer of 2013 on, the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe (St. John Ambulance) of the Federal State Association Saxony-Anhalt – Thuringia (Landesverband Sachsen-Anhalt – Thüringen) set up its Halle office on the compound of the Francke Foundations.
Being of service to our fellow human beings on a Christian basis by means of practical social, cultural and educational programmes has concerned the Francke Foundations from the start. The Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe considers itself committed to the same diaconal task. With its almost 2,000 employees, 1,000 volunteer female and male helpers and about 50,000 members the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe is one of the large charitable associations in Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
Until now, the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe has been represented in Halle by means of a daycare centre. The facility “Pustelinchen” at the Ouluer Strasse 2 provides 110 children with the opportunity of receiving care and education. As a denominational, evangelical means of support we respect the strongly pronounced secularism in the region. Nevertheless, we are pleased that our religious education provided on a voluntary basis is met with a wide demand. We intend to continue the child and youth care in this manner. Consequently we regard ourselves as a partner of the municipalities in the region. At the same time we wish to develop social services, especially in the field of outpatient care, in Halle and surroundings. Many people associate the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe with our classic services: emergency medical service, civil defense and disaster relief, and first aid training. In one part of the Burgenland district, we ensure the emergency services. As to the training of first responders and operational assistants, we are already active in Halle.
