The school town of August Hermann Francke in the course of timeIn 1698, August Hermann Francke laid the foundations for the Halle Orphanage as a symbol of a broad social reform built on education. Within 30 years more than 2,000 pupils attended the Foundations' schools, the historical complex of buildings surrounding the Linden Courtyard had been built, the unique culture historical collections in the Library and Wunderkammer had been created and the economic institutions for maintaining the school town were expanding.
The history of the Francke Foundations from its founding years to the present day is illustrated in this permanent exhibition on the entrance floor of the Historic Orphanage. Specially selected objects and the multimedia presentation of the architectural history of this unique school town allow visitors to immerse themselves in the educational cosmos comprising the Francke Foundations, which evolved from the Orphanage.
