How you can help

Both the founding in 1698 and the reconstruction of the Francke Foundations today could only succeed thanks to the support of many people in the City of Halle and the region, as well as of private individuals from throughout Germany and beyond. This help, either in the form of voluntary work or financial assistance, has to this day remained essential. Many scholarly and educational projects rely totally on such support. Also the preservation of valuable holdings in the Archive and Library could not be carried out without the help of private individuals.

Donations

"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7)

August Hermann Francke wrote these words underneath the collection box which he placed in the parlour of his vicarage in Glaucha. Today it stands in the foyer of the Historical Library and has the same goal: to collect donations - no matter how small! - for the work and reconstruction of the Foundations.
However, it is also possible to transfer money to the donations account for which the Foundations can issue a donation receipt for tax purposes. The bank details are listed below.
If you wish, you can donate towards a specific project. In this case please state the keyword in the transfer order.

Voluntary work

It is particularly the cultural work of the Foundations with tours, events, family festivals and exhibitions that relies existentially on voluntary helpers. This form of involvement was already in existence in Francke's time. Voluntary work is also possible in the area of exhibitions, the Children's Creativity Centre "Krokoseum", the Archive and Library as well as in the public relations department.

Fixed capital donation

With a fixed capital donation, capital is bequeathed to the Francke Foundations, and then becomes part of the Foundations' capital. Your fixed capital donation remains intact and only the interest from the capital can be used in accordance with the Statutes of the Francke Foundations.

Legacies and bequests

German inheritance law provides for "freedom of testation". This means that your estate can either be divided up or given to one individual as you see fit. The prerequisite for both is the drawing up of a last will and testament. When you do this, you can choose to support public institutions such as the Francke Foundations. This can be done in different ways:

Legacy

In your will you can name the Francke Foundations either as sole heir or as a joint heir of your estate.

Bequests

With a bequest you can bequeath to the Francke Foundations a fixed sum in your will. You can bequeath this sum to the Foundations either tobe used in accordance with the Statutes or for a particular purpose as specified by you. For example, you can stipulate whether the money is to be used for the renovation of a particular building or for the support of research work.

The "August Hermann Francke" School Foundation in the Francke Foundations

In December 2003 the "August Hermann Francke" School Foundation was founded by the Francke Foundations Halle and the Society of Friends of the Francke Foundations. It is legally non-independent and is in the trusteeship of the Francke Foundations. It is designed to support the Foundations' activities in the area of education, thereby continuing the spiritual heritage of the theologian, educationalist and founder of the Foundations, August Hermann Francke. One of his most important aims was to provide young people with a comprehensive education and to develop their social skills. This idea is as important as ever for the activities of the Francke Foundations and is formulated in the Statutes as a specific goal.

Although currently none of the schools on the Foundations' estate are administered by the Foundations, the Francke Foundations want to revive Francke's idea of an independent "school town". The school foundation is intended to promote the educational work of the Francke Foundations by supporting the schools and other educational institutions on the Foundations' estate, both financially and with specialist knowledge.

Donations

The school foundation depends on donations in order to be able to realise its demanding tasks.
